The Lance Armstrong book that

farmerlloyd mentioned 2 pages back is "It's not about the bike" with the subtitle "my journey back to life". I've just finished reading it myself and recommend it to dageezer (sorry if I've got your name wrong) and her partner to read. Armstrong's cancer was extremely advanced - so his story really gives "worst case scenario". Testicular cancer has a 90% cure rate if caught early enough, so fingers crossed your partner has an excellent prognosis. Thinking of everyone else here who are determinedly waving their swords!

Oh .. I may not have told everyone

The state of my bank account meant that I have now sold most of the small flock of ewes just a few days ago .. and those that remain ( about 20 ) have a couple of weeks to wait before they drop their bundles !! But there are calves on the ground all around here now. In fact calving is well under way I think .. Lambing will take a week or two before it gets busy..

farmerlloyd (24 )    11:20 pm, 16 Aug

3039.

This is definitely good night to all

All packed, and pressure sleeve and mitten awaiting for the morning. Will miss you all. My fingers will have nothing to do!!!! Dying to hear how Sonia's holiday went. Yes, Mae West, Eileen is one of my favourite characters on Coro St. too, but I bet you work harder than she does. Must close the trusty lap-top down for 11 days, my husband says I will have withdrawal symptoms. Bye bye.

Good morning everyone

It is another lovely day here in Southland. please disregard the post I made about my bank account. It was too late and I didn't think before I wrote that. What I really meant to say was . Another farmer made me an offer too good to refuse, so I took the money and sold him the sheep!!

Morning everyone

FIL's first load of chemo went well. He says he feels miles better already, I didn't realise it could work that quickly. Am trying to convince him to be driven to AKL (he lives 4 hours drive away) by someone else so he doesn't need to worry about driving but he's being stubborn and doesn't want to put anyone else out. He's a grumpy old sod sometimes!

Hi Joystik

I am sure you will get through today just as fine as you have got through the other treatments. It simply amazes me how well you keep throughout. Good on you and hope your day goes well.

Good morning Bogeyi and Ryan

Hope you had another good night's sleep. I get the feeling the worst is behind you guy's now. I hope I am right. Have a good day and tell Ryan I wish him all the best every day. The talk about getting home soon is a real encouragement.

3045.

Hi Paula , Josh and family,

Hope you are all feeling fine on this glorious Southland morning ..( I've gotta get outside !) But do hope Josh doesn't have to go through that bronchoscopy! I won't tell you what I thought of that procedure when I was at Kew! In the big picture I suppose it is only a small blip , if it does have to be done. Anyway hope your day goes just fine

FIL

is back again on 06 Sep for appointment then next load of chemo on 07 Sep. Still have no more information from him. Might see if I can go with him for his next appointment to ask questions. Is the 2nd load of chemo more powerful than the first? Am looking forward to having a full nights sleep tonight - he heads home today.

other nice posters here, Good morning , It is a lovely day at this end of the country and I hope you each have as good weather wherever you are. I have to go off and load a transport truck with some bales of balage. It is due in about five minutes ... See you all later

The chemo does build up in your system, and each session is like a top up before the the previous one wears off. I found with my treatments, that I was very tired the 2 nd day after my treatment. I used to have complete rest on this day. The following day I would go to work as per norm. I remember my first chemo was a sigh of relief that treatment had started, and that it was in my body doing its thing. Prior to the first treatment, you are still in a state of shock, and your mind working overtime that the dreaded "c" was in your body.

Morning everyone :))

Another beautiful day here. I hope you can all get outside and enjoy it. I managed to get outside for 20 mins yestaerday while Jordan was sleeping, its so cold inside with the curtains all shut to keep the light out. He and I sleep in the lounge together while hes sick so I can look after him. Hes doing ok so far, he can feel the vertigo in his head if he opens his eyes in the morning and hasn't vomited yet. The first week is usually like this though as it keeps building till the third week. Hes also on anti nausea meds.

Beaut day here today and

should be outside in the garden but got lazy and sprayed the weeds early last week and they are all just starting to die so got to be patient before I go cleaning up garden and replanting. Housework has the priority today! Miss17 dropped a bombshell on me last night. She announced 2 weeks ago she wants to go back to Germany next Winter. She got a email from her German "sister" yesterday when her school holidays are. Looks like Miss17 will be gone for her 18th birthday. Miss German plans to have her drivers license and they want to spend 6 weeks travelling thru Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy etc. I think they are too young to be wandering round Europe on their own and I'm not a happy mum! Hubby keeps telling me it might not happen. Whole idea of her not going to uni next year and working was to save some money! Miss German is coming back out in 18 months and they want to go tripping round NZ in Xmas holidays so there isn't going to be much working done! Kids eh!

Hi Maewest....

another day off today. Got the feel of spring here but looks like I am going to have to stay inside and do the housework. I might emerge from it in a weeks time!!!! Of course I could disappear and go for a walk and enjoy the sunshine on the excuse exercise is more important!

good on you for taking the $$ and running. I would too. Sorry I didn't go to Ian Gawler last night. We had such a lovely day pottering around the countryside and I just could not be bothered racing in to Chch at teatime. One of the friends I am seeing today went though. Hopefully she took some notes. To tell the truth I felt a bit guilty not going. Oh well, never mind. I will have another read of his website. Have a lovely day in the sunshine.

For Hardyro

After the op I had 4 drains (2 in my abdomen, 2 on my side beside boob). The ab drains were not too bad, but the ones draining the breast site were really painful at times. The first week was painful, but it didn’t help that I didn’t take morphine after the first couple of doses because it made me throw up, and I tended to wait until the pain was pretty bad before I took pain relief. Don’t do that; take the pain relief earlier rather than later. After about 5 days I didn’t even take any pain relief – but that’s just me. By the time I left the hospital (a week) I could walk around a little, but had to remember to take it easy. My stomach felt very tight (as you can imagine), and I felt all stooped over when walking. I had to wear the ab support (can’t remember the name of it) for at least 6 weeks, and I hated that. By that time I was able to bike, walk etc, and was pretty mobile (with some obvious limitations). Cont …

My initial plan was to get the tram flap, then a nipple reconstruction. I have decided against the nipple recon now though. My plastic surgeon made an excellent job of the ‘boob’,& with a bra, no one would know the difference (except when it's very cold LOL). My ab scar goes from hip to hip, & my navel was repositioned. The entire length of the ab scar (from above my navel to just above the pubic line) is numb (about 1.5cm deep), and that carries on up my torso where they ‘tunnelled’ the muscle up to my chest. The entire breast is completely numb. I often liken the numb torso to wearing a thick rubber wetsuit. Lying on my stomach feels very odd, and I have to be very careful about burns etc. I do sometimes get pain and itching where the nerves have been cut. This is weird because where I think I can feel these sensations, there is no feeling, so the itch can’t be scratched (if that makes sense to you). Cont ...

Hi All

Hope everyone is doing well. I dont mean to bring up the past but man that person that took the 3000 th post P'd me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vent over! Have just tried to catch up on everyone. Kiwikaz - I am glad to hear you are having some time for you, even in the circumstances you are in.I think you are wonderful being there! Dize5 - Have a great time! FarmerLloyd - I am into it now, we now have over 50 calved and the due date to start was yesterday. Hope it keeps up like this and it will be over in no time. Chris had to buy some feed in today as we are a bit low. Janet, I really feel for you and Jordan. It must be so hard - hugs to you both. I understand that was the emulator you sent me, but dear Josh checks daily for new games appearing on the list and I was thinking I would need to update that emulator each time they add a new game???Maybe???

Boop

Hi Boop, thanks for your kind words, Josh is feeling better, this lot of chemo was the next 12 week course. Of course he has had to stop twice now so it will be delaying the end. Each 12 week course starts the day after the last 12 week. So he doesnt get a break unless he gets sick - like he has. Hi Meridian, Maewest, landylass I am thinking of you all. Just getting busier by the day. Landylass - I wouldnt like to have to deal with one of my kidlets thinking about travelling around Europe, at 18. Hope it works out for all. K better go, Cass is due home soon and then its homework and feeding the calves again. Love to you all xoxo

I'm not sure how much of this is helpful to you, and I don't know what you know, and what you want to know about. If you want to ask me anything else, please do. It's great that you are a non-smoker as I know that smoking can be a big cause of complications. I urge you not to 'worry' as I believe that a positive attitude makes so much difference in recovery. I will be eager to hear how it goes for you, and will be thinking of you on the 30th for sure. Shirree xxxx

You sound busy, busy, busy!!! I'm glad Joshi's temp went back down. So he's back into the chemo again huh - poor little chap, it's a bit full on isn't it! What is next for you after the aspiration? Did it hurt? Excuse my ignorance. I agree about that person snatching the 3000 - cheeky huh!! Have a great day Paula, and give your sweet little kidlets a hug from me. xxxx

Hope you don't mind Kiwikaz

me telling your mb friends this. I think its great you have gone to support your friend, even though you are missing your daughters birthday today. When Kiwikaz hubby was diagnosed he ended up in Brisbane hospital after a seizure, 10 hours from home and she had to stay home and sort out where 3 kids were going, the youngest only 2. She got to Brisbane to find out he had a brain tumour, was bleeding in brain and may not survive 24 hours. She was alone in Brisbane and didn't know anyone. He survived the night and came round and got to ring kids to say goodbye knowing he might not survive the operation. His family from NZ were frantically trying to get there but flights organising flights take time and its thanks to a good friend in another part of OZ who flew in to be with her that she wasn't alone during his op. What goes round comes round and now she is supporting someone else in this situation. Good on you and wishing him a speedy recovery.

what a truley special friend you are to be there to support your friends in Australia. It's good to hear that your friend's diagnosis isn't as bad as it could have been. Still will be hard though, and I bet they are glad of your support. I hope miss 11 is having an awesome birthday. xxxx

Kiwikaz is my neice

and when it happened all of us in NZ were just feeling sick in the stomach knowing she was on her own over there facing the prospect of loosing her hubby. She had great community support where she lived but those couple of days in Brisbane until family arrived must have been a nightemare for her... also with worry of how the kids were handling it too.

Hi guys.

I haven't read the thread but it seems to me that it has got a bit long. Probably time to let it die and start another one. If you want to know why then pop into the "rangiora and all north cantabrians" thread and ask Gills. Believe me when I say I think it's advisable.

Having a great time

but have my weepy moments in the evenings. Lumps are hurting and my back is back to major pain - glad I brought pain killers! Massage made it worse #sigh# But loving swimming with the girls it hasa cool twirly waterslide which we all love (a slip at the top is what put my back out - at least I was having fun ;o) Scrapbooking in the evenings have done 6 pages so far, getting better as I go, much happier with these latest efforst ;o) All good, enema was a laugh but apparently according to the directions it absorbs straight in the liver, so given thats where the new cancer is - ATTACK! We'll be doing it again tonight (Lucky us!) Oh well, back to socialise. What a flash house they, have, still finishing construction, right on river... Niiiice! OK bye all :o) Later!

Hi Landylass, YES! only 2 to go now.........

The next one they want to do on the friday instead of thursday because of the neutrophils. As expected, as each dose has been given then neuts. have been slower coming back, only by a few points, but they want to give the next one closer to 2 than under that level. She thought REST might be what is required! Yeah right....I dont put much rest into any sentence let alone any day! Last time the count was 1.83 and this time it was only 1.77 so its not down a lot but enough. It all went really well today through the port. And so far no side effects.....YAY!!!!

joystik (286 )    7:39 pm, 17 Aug

3111.

I was a bit dissappointed when Dr North upped

the amount of Radiotherapy from 15 to 25 treatments, but he said at this stage its better to be safe than sorry, especially with the nodes at the base of the neck, which cant be removed. We will find plenty to do up there. I will check out that Cancer house and have a nice brochure about it here. Although Kevin is adament that he wants to be there for me, and one of Laurens friends Mum's has said she will have Lauren, so I guess its not a biggy in lots of ways....Sounds like you've been busy....nice warm sunny days make you pleased to be alive no matter what you do in the day..

3112.

I must say too landylass, I share your sentiment

about your daughter roaming round over seas with her friend at 18. That would really scare me if it was my daughter too. My friends son just went to Thailand for 8 days. He is 25, but not at all street wise, and got robbed in Singapore of $2000 and his mobile phone, beore he even got to Thailand. His parents stressed the entire time he was away, especially his Mum, and it ended up costing them so much extra, with having to send him money, phone calls to Thailand etc. I know this doesnt happen to most people but it does happen....No wonder you are not happy....((((HUGS))))) to you.....

Thanks too landylass for posting about your neice.

She is a lovely person to do what she has done for her friends at such a traumatic time in their lives. She will have total empathy for how they feel, having been in the same position. Can your daughter go on one of the organised bus tours? Safer than travelling unguided. I do understand the way you must be feeling. She sounds as stubborn as I was so she will never listen but maybe a gentle nudge in the right direction might help change her plans in a safer direction.

able to provide for hardyro, to help prepare for her reconstruction. It is so helpful to hear of personal experiences of people that have been through the same op. Haven't been on the computer

much lately so haven't been keeping up with this thread. Hope everyone's had a good day. It was lovely here in Christchurch. Got hot walking to the hospital for an appointment with my thyroid surgeon. Found out it's been put on hold. Had a pre-surgery CT scan a few weeks ago and it showed a suspicious area in my back. Am having a bone scan tomorrow to check if it is the breast cancer, which they think it is, or something else. Will then see the med onc in about a week to see what happens next.

Thats a bit of a joke, have it dripping off the fringe etc. MMMM yummy!!!! Dont know about the bronchoscopy yet, maybe Christchurch maybe Kew?? Waiting to hear what Christchurch say. He looked pale tonight, he gets tired so easily. Tonight he wanted to play his CD so I told him he could on the computer, they were calling me for ages. When I finally finished the dishes and came to see what they were doing he and Cass had Crazy Frog bursting out with all the lights off in the office. Watching the designs on Media Player. So we all had to have a groove and then I put them to bed. Never a dull moment in this house - love to you xoxo

Did get some good news though.

Sarah my 11yr old daughter passed her grade 3 jazz dance exam which was on Saturday. She got Very Highly Commended. Which is her best result yet. She also got results this week for the Uni of NSW English test for Year 7 and she got High Distinction which is 'better than or equal to that of 99% of Year 7 participants in NZ'. She was the only one in her school to get one too.

glad you had a nice day.Josh is a popular name on here isn't it I have a grandson Josh as well. How's the knitting going? You must admit Eileen is lovely but street cars I don't think so. I am so sick of Shelley when will it all end.My great grandmother is buried in the Oxford cemetery she walked from Lyttleton to Oxford when they arrived on a ship hard to imagine. I went there with my uncle about ten years ago and he said if the school bell rang now all his class mates would rise up out of there he was 92. Granny Freshwater was her name I have never heard it anywhere else.

Wow, you must be so proud of your girl. I was just playing the proud mum about a week ago because my daughter got a distinction in the NSW english exam for year 6. She was better than or equal to 97% of participants in NZ, and the only one in her school to get a distinction. Don't we have clever daughters!!!! Good luck with your bone scan tomorrow - I will be thinking of you.

Hi globalandworlds, so pleased to see you again

and pleased you have to report on a lovely sunny day in Rotorua too. It was fab here too. I think being busy is a good way to be and especially if you can regulate how busy you want to be. Glad the kids are ok too. Teenagers go thru that stage of not wanting to eat unhealthy things dont they, but that good. Life is about making choices and we like to think they can make the right ones. ((HUGS)))) to you all too.

Your boys will realise just how much you do for them when they have children themselves. I think you are fantastic. Poor Jordan - I thought he was a little older than that. How long does each bout last?

Hope you got the place sorted Farmerlloyd!!

The family must be almost home by now! So now you are a wee hobby farmer with your small fock of ewes? That seems like a nice managable number to me anyway. Sometimes sheep dont have a lot of brain cells operating at once do they??I saw one out here in the neighbours paddock, with its head thru a square netting fence. It spent the whole day, pushing trying to get it whole body thru a 8" x 6" hole, where as 1 step backwards would have seen it out!! In fact it had gone right along the fince line putting it head in and out through these meshs and then just forgot what to do I guess!! I must go to bed on that note, and will see you again tomorrow too.....

I Janet, boy I really feel for you with your boys

suffering such problems. You are a super mum to them and are just there for them always. Hopefully Jordan will grow out of the vertigo thing sooner rather than later. Is Danny showing much signs of improvement? I say a wee prayer for them every day, as well as you Janet and everyone else on here. Keep smiling and (((HUGS)))) to you all....

Hi maewest, the latest on the job front from today

is that my friend and I have to present a proposal to the Big Boss man on tuesday, outlining exactly how we seee our partnership running within the firm. It all seems quite foreign to him but very straightforward to us. I have been busy writing it all up tonight. Its still in the pipeline, and being negotiated. Seems very longwinded to me though. The thing for me is that I need to go with my friend so she can cover for me while I'm away having Radiotherapy. I'm certainly not mentioning it to anyone else there. Love to you Maewest and thanks for you encouragement!!

Haha Boop

Don't you find it scary..not so long ago the AB's were such men and now most of them look like bits of boys!!!! Hehe. Surely it is not us getting older??? I agree with you..the Shelley saga has got to end. When I first joined the taxis our dispatching was done the same way as Eileen (well not quite the same!!!) but now it is all computerised, as is everything these days. Still get to talk on the radio to the drivers though.
